Artifical Intelligence

NewSchools invests in early-stage ventures that use AI to catalyze better teaching and learning. We believe AI can be a powerful tool when grounded in research, co-created with educators, and focused on what works in real classrooms.

What We Invest In

Our AI investments focus on five research-based priorities:

  1. Increasing access to grade-level content and personalized support: Solutions that help students engage with rigorous academic content and receive timely, differentiated support.

  2. Improving teacher practice: Solutions that support educators with coaching, planning, and content development.

  3. Enabling next-generation assessment: Solutions that analyze student work and learning patterns to generate real-time, actionable insights.

  4. Supporting networks of care for students furthest from opportunity: Solutions that reduce administrative burdens and enable more coordinated, student-centered support, especially for students with learning differences and multilingual learners.

  5. Building AI literacy and readiness: Solutions that build AI literacy and readiness, supporting educators to make informed decisions about AI adoption to improve outcomes for all learners.

How We Invest

We apply a clear set of principles to guide our investments in AI:

Quality

Quality over speed

We prioritize solutions that demonstrate instructional value over those that race towards rapid growth.

Cocreate

Co-creation with educators and students

We invest in ventures that design and test solutions to work in real classrooms.

Instructional

We look for solutions that align with strong pedagogy and reinforce effective instructional practices.

Inclusive design

Inclusive design from the start

We seek solutions that reflect the range of student needs and are accessible to all learners.
