Luna Nguyen

Manager, Research and Learning

Luna is the Manager of Research and Learning at New Schools. In this role she works across teams to monitor and evaluate impact and support continuous learning and improvement.

Prior to New Schools, Luna was the Managing Director of Research and Data Strategy at Good Reason Houston. In this role she established and implemented the organization’s research agenda including articulating research questions, designing and implementing data analyses, setting and monitoring impact goals, and leading the translation of research and data into insights to drive action across the Houston community.

Luna started her career as a Teach For America corps member in Houston where she taught 2nd grade, then 6th and 10th grade English. Through her classroom experience, Luna developed an interest in the intersection of philanthropy, policy, and public education. She joined Arnold Ventures supporting research and strategy for new areas of investment and then served on Spring Branch ISD’s school redesign team, an initiative funded by NewSchools in 2018. In this role she coordinated convenings and field learning experiences for teachers and school leaders as they applied design thinking to reimagine schools for personalized learning.

Luna earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a master’s of public affairs from Princeton University’s School for Public and International Affairs. As a first-generation college graduate, she is deeply committed to ensuring every child has access to educational opportunities that meet their needs. She lives in Houston with her family of five and two dogs. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, eating, and being outdoors.
