Antonio Baca is a proud Burqueño and lifelong advocate for refugee and immigrant communities. As the founding Director of the APS Refugee & Newcomer Supports Program and co-founder of the APS International High School, he has dedicated his career to expanding access and opportunity for newly arrived students and families. A first-generation college graduate and descendant of Hispano migrant farmworkers, Antonio’s work is deeply rooted in his family and community history. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of New Mexico and began working with refugee communities in 2007. He later served in the Peace Corps in Rwanda from 2009 to 2011, an experience that further shaped his commitment to global education and community partnership. Antonio went on to serve as Coordinator of the Refugee Well-being Project and co-founded United Voices for Newcomer Rights, where he currently serves as board president. When he’s not working to support newcomer communities, Antonio can often be found performing Flamenco guitar with his brother.
