Peter Timothy Anderson is the Head of Schools/CEO at Washington Latin Public Charter Schools in Washington, D.C., where he leads a diverse network of schools serving students in grades 5-12. With more than 25 years of experience in educational leadership, Peter has previously served as a senior school administrator in Harlem, the Bronx, and Newark. He holds a B.A. in Sociology from Haverford College, an M.Sc. in Sociology from the London School of Economics, and an M.A. in Early Childhood/Elementary Education from New York University. He is also a coach and mentor for educators and nonprofit leaders.
Peter’s work has focused primarily on creating schools that provide rigorous academics while fostering nurturing and inclusive communities. He has presented at numerous local, regional, and national conferences on topics such as charter school governance, the school-to-prison pipeline, school culture, character development, and professional growth. Peter is also deeply committed to service, having served in a governance capacity for local, regional, and national organizations. He currently chairs the DC Charter School Action Board and serves on the boards of the DC Special Education Cooperative, the MySchoolDC common lottery board, and the Cesar Chavez School for Public Policy in DC. He is a member of the Haverford College Corporation and currently serves on its Advisory Committee. Previous service has included the American Friends Service Committee, the Montclair Cooperative School, and Jamaicans Providing Resources for Infrastructure, Development, and Education (JamPRIDE), an organization he founded to improve social and economic conditions in Jamaica.
In addition to his work in education and service, Peter is passionate about social and economic development, cross-cultural understanding, and peacebuilding. He has been a Pahara Fellow, a Seeding Disruption Fellow, and a member of the Stanford EdLEADers program. He enjoys the visual and performing arts and resides in Washington, D.C.
