The Institute for Anti-Racist Education is developing the Create Freedom Learning Model, which includes a cross-disciplinary curriculum and instruction design tool that aims to enhance student engagement and learning. The model centers abolitionist SEL practices (which elevate healing, critical care, transformative dialogue, and models joy, vulnerability, and community) while aligning to state educational standards and mandates. The curriculum has quarterly units that span across different subject areas and each unit offers diverse topics where students explore various issues and create action plans to implement their solutions in small groups. In addition to the curriculum, the model includes professional learning communities for teachers and opportunities to collaborate with one another.
