Outline is a writing platform that breaks down the writing process into smaller parts, by supporting students through the brainstorming and organizing parts of essay writing. Many students have a difficult time writing essays and research has shown that when digital tools are used to teach writing, students are highly motivated to write. Created with teacher input, Outline is designed to help students better organize their thoughts, form a cohesive narrative out of multiple stories, distill ideas into one-sentence summaries, and learn the fundamentals of writing a strong outline. Using the Outline platform, students are able to generate essay ideas and organize these ideas to begin creating a sequence for their essay. Outline helps students summarize their ideas into main points, prompts them with transition words to link their ideas together and encourages them to fill in their ideas with additional sentences. Students then have an outline of their essay that they’re able to download as a foundation for additional writing. The approach is based on a proprietary essay brainstorming and structuring method developed from over 10 years of working with teenagers one-on-one, with 95% of students getting into one of their top 3 colleges and receiving more than $10 million in scholarships.
