Dr. Mark A. Sullivan, a dedicated educator, embarked on his journey in Birmingham City Schools 25 years ago as a 5th-grade teacher. Advancing to Superintendent, he champions academic excellence. In his four years at the helm of one of the largest school districts in Alabama, Dr. Sullivan is leading the district’s multi-faceted transformation in education achievement at all levels to equip scholars for success. A Birmingham native and alumnus of its schools, Dr. Sullivan holds degrees from Alabama A&M University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He served 24 years in the US Naval Reserves, and he actively engages in community service through Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and Boy Scouts. Proud father of Morgan, his daughter inspires him to pursue and offer the best academic options for all scholars, embodying his commitment to education and community enrichment.
