Pragya Upreti is a student at Lafayette High School in Lexington, Kentucky. She is passionate about promoting civic engagement and educational equity in public schools. As a member of the Kentucky Student Voice Team, she helped spearhead a participatory action study to assess the impact of the pandemic on student learning, which engaged over 10,000 youth statewide. Pragya also organized and moderated one of Kentucky’s first student-led town halls for School Board candidates in 2020, and in her capacity as a national ambassador for Student Voice, she led a press conference to call upon the Biden-Harris Administration to more authentically engage youth in the U.S. Department of Education. Pragya started Perspective, a podcast that amplifies the perspectives of students on global and national issues, including education, immigration, and law enforcement. Most recently, in the midst of a landmark free speech case, Mahanoy Area School District v. B.L., Pragya co-authored an amicus curiae brief sent to the U.S. Supreme Court with a joint coalition of student groups.
