Through the Racial Equity investment area, NewSchools is investing $1.5 million in innovators with bold ideas to alleviate racial inequities in education. Instead of a traditional grantmaking approach, this is the council, comprised of parents, students, and education innovators, making the decisions.

College Student

Monique is in her fourth year of college, pursuing a secondary education degree in English at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. As a first-generation student, her high involvement in high school organizations and activities motivated her to embrace the possibilities education offers, thus beginning her commitment to becoming a teacher. Much of her educational philosophy concentrates on supplying equal student awareness and equitable exposure to available opportunities for underrepresented learners within school and neighborhood communities.  A native of southern Nevada, Monique intends to continue residing and teaching in Nevada after her 2024 graduation. She strives to motivate, inspire and lead in her future classroom, increasing achievement and representation for southern Nevada students.
