Racial Equity Council

Through the Racial Equity investment area, NewSchools is investing $1.5 million in innovators with bold ideas to alleviate racial inequities in education. Instead of a traditional grantmaking approach, this is the council, comprised of parents, students, and education innovators, making the decisions.

College Student

Immanuel is an incoming freshman at Delaware State University in Dover, Delaware. He is interested in entrepreneurship, computer science, cyber security, and cyber forensics and hopes to one day be able to combine his interests to support and empower students from underprivileged backgrounds. Immanuel is active in his community. He leads the community engagement work at a local nonprofit that provides educational support and family coaching.  

“I’ve always been on the other side of the grant process. I do know that a lot of times grant committees can overlook… marginalized communities because they don’t have a lot of members who are from the community they are supposed to be helping.”
