Eddy Ramirez

Senior Manager, Communications

Eddy Ramirez is the Senior Communications Manager at NewSchools Venture Fund. He brings deep experience and rich insights from his years writing about education for various news outlets and teaching at two of New York City’s most innovative charter school networks.

Eddy found his way into journalism during high school while navigating the challenges of being an undocumented student. It was a journalism scholarship that paved the way for him to go to college and work in newsrooms across the country, including the Boston Globe, the Los Angeles Times, and the New York Times. After college, he got hired as an education reporter.

Eddy’s reporting on both the lack of progress in closing achievement gaps and the promise of innovative learning solutions eventually led him to the classroom. He spent five years teaching in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. During that time, he met rigorous student performance goals to earn a master’s in teaching from RELAY’s Graduate School of Education.

Prior to joining NewSchools, Eddy supported charter schools in New York and Los Angeles as a leader in communications and public affairs. Eddy is a proud graduate of UC Berkeley. Originally from Nayarit, Mexico, he is fluent in Spanish and enjoys traveling there any chance he gets.
