Eddy Ramirez

Senior Manager, Communications

Eddy Ramirez is the Senior Communications Manager at NewSchools. He brings deep expertise from his years as an education reporter and his tenure teaching at two of New York City’s most successful charter school networks.

Eddy found his way into journalism in high school while navigating the challenges of being an undocumented student. A journalism scholarship paved the way for him to go to UC Berkeley and work in newsrooms across the country, including the Boston Globe, the Los Angeles Times, and The New York Times. He went on to become an education reporter at the St. Petersburg Times in Florida and at U.S. News & World Report.

Eddy’s coverage of persistent educational inequities and the potential of innovative learning solutions inspired him to pursue teaching. For five years, he taught middle and high school students in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, where his efforts helped students learn and achieve at high levels, earning him a Master’s in Teaching from RELAY’s Graduate School of Education.

Before his current role at NewSchools, Eddy spent nearly 10 years as a communications and public affairs leader, elevating the profile of charter schools in New York and Los Angeles. Eddy is originally from Nayarit, Mexico and now lives in Los Angeles. He enjoys traveling, training for triathlons, and spending time in nature.
