Associate Partner

Derrick is an Associate Partner on the Innovative Schools team. In this role, Derrick leads the sourcing and diligence processes for investments in new, innovative public school models across the country. Before joining NewSchools, Derrick served as a school leader at Success Academy Charter Schools, where he began as an elementary school teacher and Teach For America Corps Member. From 2010 to 2014, Derrick’s students ranked among the top one percent in math and the top five percent in reading in New York State. He began his career at Goldman Sachs in their Human Capital Management division, supporting programming, strategy, and analysis across talent management with a focus on diversity.

Derrick earned a master’s degree in education from Stanford University, where he was awarded a tuition fellowship, was a Rathbun Fellow and was named Master’s Student of the Year at the Graduate School of Education. He received his bachelor’s in business administration from Morehouse College, where he was a Gates Millennium Scholar and an Oprah Winfrey Scholar.
