Chris Lozier

Chief Operating Officer

Chris Lozier leads the NewSchools’ finance and operations teams, focusing on knowledge management, technology infrastructure, business operations, budgeting and accounting, grants and contracts, facilities management, and legal.

Before joining NewSchools, Chris was an executive leader at several education nonprofits, including serving as COO at National Center for Teacher Residencies and as CFO at Civitas Schools. Chris began his career as a U.S. Navy nuclear submarine officer and also worked in private sector finance before re-careering to the nonprofit sector. He earned an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Notre Dame.

Chris lives in Chicago with his wife and two daughters. He plays mandolin and guitar with Hayward, his band of middle-aged parents, as well as a posse of slightly less-aged neighborhood bluegrass pickers. He also hosts a podcast called “If You’ve Come This Far,” in which he and a friend interview people who are working on making life more meaningful.
