Carmen is an analyst with NewSchools Venture Fund on the Diverse Leaders team. Prior to joining NewSchools, Carmen was a Client Development Associate at Arabella Advisors, a national philanthropic consulting firm. Carmen’s passion lies at the intersection of the social sector, multiculturalism, and education. She has worked with a number of nonprofit organizations with diverse missions, including TeachUNICEF, The Refugee Advice and Casework Service (RACS), and The Women’s Islamic Initiative for Spirituality and Equality (WISE). Carmen also spent a year teaching English and Math to young students in the south of Thailand.
She attended the Gallatin School of Individualized Study at New York University and graduated with a self-designed degree in Human Rights Law and Nonprofit Management. Carmen grew up in the Bay Area and is a native Spanish speaker. She enjoys eating spicy foods with strong flavors, hiking, doing outdoor yoga, watching (but not participating) in improv shows, and crossing off relatively unknown places on her travel list.
