Venture Snapshot

Character Lab

Character Lab (CL) is an early-stage non-profit venture with a mission to select, support, and disseminate evidence-based character interventions. Founded in 2012, CL emerged from conversations between Dave Levin, co-founder of KIPP, the Relay Graduate School of Education, Dominic Randolph, Head of Schools at Riverdale Country School, and Angela Duckworth of the University of Pennsylvania. Its mission is based on evidence that character – defined as a specific set of skills beyond the academic that contribute to human development – greatly impacts a student’s academic results and overall long-term life outcomes and that specific teacher-led interventions can have a major impact on character formation
