Human Capital
The human capital ventures that NewSchools has supported provide public schools with outstanding principals, teachers, and professional development resources.
Scale:
- New Leaders for New Schools has trained over 420 outstanding school leaders who serve over a quarter of a million students nationally; by 2014, over 2,000 highly-trained principals will be affecting the lives of one million students in our nation’s neediest urban districts.
- Teach For America has touched the lives of an additional 1 million students through 17,000 urban and rural teacher placements.
- Teachscape has provided in-service and web-based professional development to over 50,000 educators across the country.
Quality:
- Over 75% of principals prepared by New Leaders for New Schools that have served in their schools for two or more years have seen gains in both reading and math over their period of service.
- The new teachers prepared by Teach For America have been shown to be effective educators, with three out of four principals considering them more effective at increasing student achievement than other new teachers. Approximately 60% of these teachers have continued their careers in education.
- Teachscape’s professional development tools are aligned with standards and delivered both onsite and online through video-based case method trainings so that teachers can become more effective at raising academic achievement in their classrooms.
