School Support Organizations
The school support organizations that NewSchools has worked with provide high-quality services to both charter and district schools at a reasonable cost. Investments in this area have thus far focused on providing facilities to house our growing portfolio of schools.
- Scale: Our facilities ventures have created 7,000 new seats for students in charter schools in New York and California.
- Quality: Our facilities ventures have provided charter schools with turnkey facilities; by assuming responsibility and risk for facilities planning, development, and financing they have enabled those school operators to focus their time and resources on the important work of education. Schools have been created at a lower cost (in some cases, 4 to 5 times lower than similar district-run projects) and several feature ecologically friendly designs. These real estate firms have also been successful in levering and aggregating capital from a variety of resources: philanthropic dollars, district renovation monies, and federal credit enhancement funds.
