Julie Petersen
Julie Petersen is the Communications Director at NewSchools Venture Fund, where she oversees the firm’s communications and publications strategy. She has also written and edited a number of education publications, including “Learning Facts: The brave new world of data-informed instruction” and “A Building Need: Charter schools in search of good homes,” both for Education Next, “What Is Educational Entrepreneurship?” in Education Entrepreneurship: Realities, Challenges, Possibilities and “Social Purpose Capital Markets in K–12” in The Future of Educational Entrepreneurship: Possibilities for School Reform.
Prior to joining NewSchools Venture Fund, Julie spent three years as a writer at Red Herring, a business and technology magazine, where she covered venture capital as well as a range of other beats, including entrepreneurs, social innovation, and education. In 2001, she was named one of the “Top 30 Under 30” business journalists in the country by TJFR. Julie graduated from Vanderbilt University with a BA in English, and earned a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.
